What is Generative AI?
- Generative AI is a form of artificial intelligence that generates fresh content by drawing insights from existing content.
- The procedure of acquiring knowledge from existing content is referred to as training and leads to the development of a statistical model.
- When provided with a prompt, Generative AI utilises this statistical model to anticipate a probable response, thus generating novel content.

How does Moodle work with Gen AI?
2. API -> Content Moderation: The API sends the textual description to the Content Moderation component to check for inappropriate or offensive content.
- If the content is appropriate, the Content Moderation component forwards the request to DALL-E 3.
- If the content is inappropriate, the Content Moderation component may reject the request or flag it for review, sending a response back to the API.

in Development
Overview
Overt’s AI art generator plugin would provide an interface within the College Moodle for entering text prompts and generating corresponding images. It would leverage APIs from services like DALL-E, Midjourney, and Stable Diffusion which accept text prompts and return AI generated images (training is also provided).
Installation
The Moodle plugin settings would allow connecting API keys for one or more different image generation services, to provide options to users. We will also incorporate settings to restrict usage and content based on educational policies.
The User
On the user interface side, there would be a simple text box for students and teachers to enter prompts. Some template prompts will be provided as examples, covering course concepts which will be gathered at the installation stage. Users would be able to generate single/multiple images from a single prompt and then select the best image to insert into Moodle materials.
Tracking & abuse
The inserted images would become associated with that prompt text, allowing future editing. Usage would be tracked by prompt keywords to monitor for any abuse. Generated images would receive appropriate credits/citations pointing back to the AI service.
Output
Overall, this will allow the rapid creation of illustrative images to enhance Moodle courses. It also taps into the creative potential of AI to generate visuals reflecting course topics. With the right prompts, it can augment learning and lesson materials. Careful consideration around usage guidelines is important.
